Aim of the course

  • This course is designed to deliver a comprehensive understanding of internationally recognized human rights instruments and standards and their applications thereto.
  • It will enable students identify and understand international and regional conventions and their applications thereto.
  • It will enable students form an advanced conceptual understanding of the promotion and protection of human rights, at the international, regional and national level, that is informed by insights based on practice and scholarship at the forefront of the discipline.
  • Students will understand the international Human Rights supervisory system.
  • It will set international human rights law in its philosophical and historical contexts.
  • It will enable students understand international human rights law as it applies in various situations including states of emergency or acute crises.
